My Car!!!

This is my car. It's a 1974 VW Superbeetle that I converted into what's commonly referred to as a Baja Bug. The car actually used to be my parents, and after my sister was done with it and I realized that it would be my car, I decided some drastic measures needed to be taken. At the time I knew absolutely nothing about cars, or engines, or pretty much most things mechanical. So I enrolled in my high school auto shop. Turns out the auto shop teacher hated VW bugs, and was not going to be of any help. But eventually I tore almost everything apart. The majority of what I was taught came from 10 minute conversations with the guy at our local auto parts store and from watching the discovery channel. Actually, I remember watching the first episode of "American Chopper" and asking my teacher the next day if I could learn to use the welding machine. He walked me over to it, flipped the on switch, turned on the gas, and told me, "Don't light yourself on fire." Because of this project, I know how to make things out of metal, change tires, rewire things, pack bearings, Spray paint, and disassemble an engine in a dark corner of a park garage with nothing but the tools I have in my trunk. Good times.
